I should talk about the 3 great bottles of Rocce Rosse by Ar.Pe.Pe. I tasted a couple of weeks ago. In the meantime, let me tell you how good was Fiamme Antiche 2007.
Inferno is one of 5 subzones of Valtellina Superiore DOCG, certainly the hottest one, but also the easiest to remember (you could have some problems with Maroggia and Valgella, for example; Grumello is less famous than Sassella, which is maybe the best area for nebbiolo grapes in Valtellina, locally known as chiavennasca).
Fiamme antiche –nomen omen– is powerful and intense, quite rough, but no ungraceful. You won’t find the same elegance than you could appreciate with Rocce Rosse, but it’s a really interesting wine, “award of long waiting” (cit.) and not yet at its best.
